Requesting a Sample Analysis on Ungraded Inventory
Requesting a Sample Analysis on Ungraded Inventory
Some inventory listings on MyGrainExchange are offered without a verified grade. If you're interested in a listing but want lab-verified quality data before you bid, you can ask the seller to send a sample for analysis — at no cost to you.
When Can I Request a Sample Analysis?
You'll see a Request Sample Analysis button on any ungraded inventory listing you don't own. Listings that already have a verified grade attached won't show this option, because the lab data is already published on the listing.
How It Works
Step 1: Open the Listing
Browse to the inventory listing you're interested in and scroll to the listing details. If the inventory is ungraded, you'll see an amber Request Sample Analysis button alongside the other actions.
Step 2: Send the Request
Click the button and confirm. That's it — there's no form to fill out. The platform automatically opens (or creates) a chat with the seller and posts a message letting them know you'd like a sample sent off for analysis.
Step 3: The Seller Sends the Sample
The seller is notified of your request and arranges to send a representative sample to our partner lab. The seller covers the cost of the analysis — you are not charged anything for requesting it.
Step 4: Lab Analysis
Sample analysis typically completes within approximately 5 business days from the time the lab receives the sample. Shipping time from the seller to the lab is in addition to this.
Step 5: You're Notified When Results Arrive
As soon as the analysis is complete, you'll receive:
A chat message in the conversation with the seller showing that the analysis is finished, with a View Analysis link to the full results.
An email notification letting you know the verified grade has been published on the listing.
The listing itself is also updated with the verified grade so you can review the full quality breakdown before deciding whether to make an offer.
What Happens If the Seller Declines?
Sellers aren't required to act on a sample analysis request. If a seller chooses not to send a sample, the listing simply remains ungraded. You can still message the seller through the chat or move on to other listings.
Tips
Use sample analysis requests on listings you're seriously considering — sellers are more likely to send a sample when there's a clear buying interest.
Keep an eye on the chat for updates from the seller about shipping timing.
Once results are in, the verified grade is visible to all buyers, not just you.
